Lucky Philip Dube was born in Ermelo, east of Johannesburg, on August 3, 1964. After a few failed pregnancy attempts by his mother Sarah, Dube came into the world. His mother considered his birth so fortunate that she aptly named him ‘Lucky’.

Born into a single parent family, times were tough for a black boy born into poverty under the Group Areas Act and the Pass Laws of the time. Lucky’s parents had separated before he was born.

His mother was the only breadwinner in the family and was forced to relocate to find work, leaving Dube and his siblings, Thandi and Patrick, to the care of his grandmother.
With a father who drank heavily, Dube was somewhat relieved he did not get to know his father when he was younger as he is certain it would have influenced him and swayed his career.

Dube had only ever been drunk once, as a young boy, after being tricked at a party. So awful was the experience that he swore off alcohol, cigarettes and drugs completely.
He began working as a gardener at the age most children enter school. He later joined a school himself. Although a clearly underprivileged child and despite being taught in Afrikaans, Dube excelled and joined the school choir.

He was a natural performer and when the choirmaster walked out of their practice one day, Dube took over. His popularity grew and he went on to become a frontline artiste in the reggae genre. He recorded over 20 albums in a career spanning over 25 years.

They included Rastas Never Die, Think About The Children, Soul Taker, Trinity and his latest, released in 2006, is called Respect. He won over 20 awards for his music contribution locally and internationally.

Dube visited Uganda five times in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2003 to sold-out concerts. He was slated to perform this December and had just completed a highly billed US tour.

The 6th of December 2007 50 CENT , is coming to Sweden for a concert. He is only appear in NORRKÖPING. These big artists when they come to Sweden they only appear in the bigger cities ( Stockholm and Gothenburg). But this time its NORRKÖPINGS luck to get such a big visitor and hip hopper.  Norrköping is smaller than Stockhom and Gothenburg. So when I heard of the intresting news that 50 cent is coming to Norrköping I did´nt believe it. Yesterday (friday) when I read in the newspaper I finally understood that it was true. So I´ve already booked tickets for that day. So 50 CENT here we COME the 6th of December. I hope this time it´s gonna be a longer show than last time when he appeard in Stockholm.

HE was the first Ugandan contemporary singer to be nominated for any award outside Uganda, East Africa and Africa.

Two years ago, he was named Best African Artiste at the Swedish African Music Awards during a tour of Sweden.

Last year, he was the first Ugandan musician to be nominated for the UK’s prestigious Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards in the Best African Act category, but lost to Ghana’s Batman Samini.

This time round, Chamelone, a two-time Kora Award nominee for East African Artist of The Year, is tussling it out with five other African acts in for the Best African Act trophy at 14th Annual Music Television (MTV) Europe Music Awards 2007. The awards are slated for November 1 at the Olympia Halle Arena in Munich, Germany.

Others are D’Banj, upbeat Nigerian R&B sensation; Jua Cali, “Kenya’s underground hip-hop king”; Samini, a dancehall artist from Ghana and HHP, “South Africa’s hottest hip-hop MC.”

Ugandans can watch the awards live on MTV Base (Dstv channel 88) and (MTV Europe Dstv channel 85). The Best African Act was initiated in 2005 to mark the arrival, in sub-Saharan Africa, of MTV’s African music channel, MTV base.

The first ever award was won by Nigeria’s 2-FACE Idibia, who received his award in Lisbon, Portugal in 2005, followed in 2006 by South Africa’s Freshlyground, who received their award from MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo in Copenhagen, Denmark.

 I moved from my student´s appartment July the 26th 2007 so now I´m writing from my new appartment. It´s bigger and better in many many ways! I´m glad that I moved!

The news today is that I´ve finally really began my working out. Yesterday(friday) I went out for a 6km run, hmmm yes its true. It was so so nice afterwards. I felt so alive. And today(saturday) I was at the gym working out. My work out for today was; 30 minutes running ,15 minutes walking and 40 minutes lifting upper body.

After today´s workout I came home to my appartment and took a warm shower, dished and made some quick food to eat. Its said that after a hard work out the body needs around 1-2 litres water and alot of good food. And why is this needed? After working out the body needs more power so that muscles can be rebuilt.

And another thing: I´m not sleepy at all this evening, I could be able to stay up for more 4 hours to study.

I watched Moses Kipsiro run before, from Germany Stuttgart. He run 3000 metres, but too bad that he came 7th. Anyway I´m glad that Uganda has athelets contesting for our country UGANDA. And while I was at the gym another Ugandan man called Abraham run 800 metres and he also came on the 7th place.

 Don´t have mucuhmore to update for now.

 I´ve packed my belongings from my students appartment to another appartment(not a students appartment) I´m tired of living in a students appartment… hahaha.. Anyway! Yesterday (Thursday) I packed my belongings, cleaned the appartment and moved my things to the new appartment.

The belongings are still unpacked, had to come back home, because of I´m working all this weekend.

 Ohhh my…. I think I have a problem!! I have many many things. I think I need help soon. Hahaha. By the way, these are not all my belongings! Yes Indeed, I need to stop shopping and buying stuff.!! Haha. Hmmm don´t think It will happen!. *Smile*

This is from my old hall (Students appartment) … Bye bye Students appartment! Gonna Miss living there though, but I guess I will get over it soon. *Smile*

Yes after the hard work of cleaning and packing We needed something to eat and drink. Pizza and water for me. The pizza was´nt the best I´ve eaten but, when you are hungry anything tastes Ok. Hahaha. We ate on one of my packed boxes. I have no table Yet. But really Soon so

When I came home from Norrköping, my mum gave me some food that we recieved  from Uganda on Tuesday( matooke, entula , cucumber and ovacado ( a Huge ovacado)….. THANKS for Our relatives in Uganda we can now eat good,delicious  food for a while. *Happy*  I Miss this Ugandan food, so so nice.

Ooooooh My….. This is One big Ovacado. In Sweden these biiig ovacados are rare.

Today is friday… not any ordinary Friday, ít´s Friday the 13th 2007. And for many people this date on a Friday means bad luck in many ways (Especially for Swedish people)?????!

About every seventh month a Friday is the 13th and for those that believe in superstition it is not a game. Whithin Christianity Fridays are considerd to bring bad luck, this because of the Good Friday and because of the Jesus´s last meal, the amount of people were then 13.

MORE CAR Accidents.

According to the statistics (Sweden) and just concentrating on Friday the 13th 8 per cent more car accidents happen and home accidents according to the insurance statisctics in Sweden.

My Opinion. 

Me I don´t find Friday the 13th as a bad luck day. What I Believe in though is that this is a European “Culture” to think like this… Am I wrong ?!!!But unfortunately many accidents seem to happen this day. Let´s hope this time it will be different.

“African Queen”

Yesterday I was in town with a friend, took something to eat and drink and ofcourse “Window Shopping” anyway ME. Haha. Really nice , sunny Monday.

Really nice, so even though I´m tired in my brain, my body is relaxed and ready to work this evening, tomorrow and Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday am FREE. So Saturday Evening We Shall PARTY All night LONG.

Am here at home listening to Ugandan Music, longing back home to Uganda. Miss many people and lots of things from Ug. But hopefully in 1 or 2 years time I will be back were I belong. In Africa ( Uganda).

“African Queen”

The last past weeks I ´ve been busy, I have celebrated two girls graduations ( Upper secondary School) this was the 15th of June. It was a very hot Friday, sunshine all day, good food and nice people.

 This is One of the two cakes that was served at the graduation party. It´s really nice one, and its an ordinary Swedish cake.

Last friday the 22 th of June it was Midsummer here in Scandinavia (particullary the Swedish One) I woke up early that day to go to work, came home and prepared for going to celebrate it with my family. Generally the day was fine, but rainy. I worked from 7.am to 4.30 pm. So so tired I was afterwards.

Oh My God, I ate alot of food. During the first 5-6 hours I arrived to mum´s place I managed to eat dinner, cake and supper and after maybe 1 hour I ate Icecream with strawberries while watching a movie calle Apocalypto really good movie by the way. So that DAY I ate really much, I had stomach ache that night. Haha. The day after MidsummerEve it was MidsummerDay, so we went to my boyfriends family and celebrated with them,  I did´nt eat as much as the day before. Anyway it was a nice Holiday Weekend.

On Sunday, I woke up at around 10.40 am and drunk a cup of coffee, put on my nike shoes, pants and so on. And I took a long walk , 1 Hours walk, I wanted to burn away all that food I had eaten. *Smiling* Felt really good afterwards.

So which means that now here in Sweden ( Scandinavia) we are going into the dark season. After Midsummer the days become shorter and it becomes darker sooner.

 Thats all for me Now. Am now hungry, time is 12.04 pm so I think I need to eat lunch, and I have headache today. I always become sick when am having my free days. Wonder Why??!  So my plan for today was to go to the gym and work out, but unfortunately I can´t , need to cure my headache first.
